You Heard it Here First: DCs Talk Integrative Care
Findings published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicineconclude that chiropractic services offered at corporate health clinics, versus off-site physical therapy, may promote lower utilization of certain costly health care services, while improving neuro-musculoskeletal function. Additionally, chiropractic patients often have a more conservative, less invasive treatment profile, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of treatment.
During the month of April, the Foundation got to chat with doctors of chiropractic working in integrative, hospital and corporate settings who can provide firsthand experience regarding the value that chiropractic brings to the table in this form of setting:
"More and more employer-based health centers are integrating chiropractic care

into their primary care programs to address their extremely expensive health care

costs. Chiropractors play a key role in a new collaborative approach to spine

care that involves a variety of non-surgical therapy options including

manipulation, manual therapy, rehabilitation exercise, and injury prevention

education. Chiropractic is fast-becoming the most cost-effective option for better

long-term outcomes and avoiding unnecessary invasive treatments, imaging, and

pain medication."

- Daniel Lord, DC, CCSP
“Corporations are seeing the need in taking a more proactive approach when it comes to the musculoskeletal health of their employees. On-site chiropractic care has become the foundation of that approach.”
-      Curt Krause, DC

At the clinic, most of the other providers that I work alongside are primary care physicians (PCP), which works out great. Our team balances each other out and we have found that by putting our heads together, we are able to develop the best care plan for our patients.

In a hospital system, patient satisfaction scores matter more than most other outcome-driven data. I can say confidently that my patient satisfaction scores have been incredible. It will always be my goal as a doctor of chiropractic in an integrative health care setting to continue to create a good standard of care for chiropractic.”

-  David W. Flatt, DC, DABCO, Board Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist
“I have been credentialed in five hospitals over my 33-year career, including Bethesda Naval and Walter Reed Medical Centers. During my time working in an integrated environment, I have certainly seen the value of chiropractic in drug-free treatment of a variety of clinical presentations ranging from limb salvage, to blast injury patients, amputees, behavioral health patients, chronic pain patients, and of course those with spinal ailments.

The model in which chiropractic is most revered is one in which cost savings is the goal. Chiropractic provides affordable care with a great cost-benefit ratio. However, if a hospital is more focused on high relative value units (RVUs) and increased billing, then it prefers expensive procedures like epidural injections, cardiac catheterization labs, and colonoscopies. In short, chiropractic care is inexpensive and in some hospital models, that is not desired.

If I could give advice to doctors of chiropractic looking to further their career in a hospital setting, I would say:
“Walk in the door like you belong there, because you do. Always seek to fulfill the patient’s desire (what they want) first. If they need pain relief, give them pain relief prior to recommending regular chiropractic care for wellness. If you can’t fulfill their needs first, they won’t trust you.”
– William E. Morgan, DC, DAAPM, FICC, FIM, FPAC, LLD (hc)
Ohio State Chiropractic Association Enrolls in Group Membership
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress is thrilled to welcome Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) to Group Membership.
OSCA has been a strategic player in helping to fight the nationwide opioid epidemic with the implementation of a statewide Opioid Task Force, as well as legislative and regulatory initiatives.

“With Ohio and several of its counties being the epicenter of the nationwide opioid epidemic it just makes sense to partner with the Foundation,” said the OSCA’s Executive Director, Nicholas Strata. “By reestablishing our relationship we are giving much needed tools to our members to combat the opioid issue.”

The Foundation has worked alongside members of OSCA to develop a brochure communicating the value of chiropractic care as a safe, effective and non-drug approach to manage pain, which is now being distributed in hospitals to patients in pain. In addition, the Foundation and members of OSCA have created another brochure about the value of chiropractic care for veterans.

Group Members are included within a premier class of support. Each month, the F4CP creates and distributes a multitude of positive press resources for Group Members to utilize, including press releases, TV and radio public service announcements, advertisements, infographics, social media content and more.
