Just Released: New Membership Brochure

This month, the F4CP proudly introduces one of its latest trifold brochures:

This brochure was created based on a request from the Ohio State Chiropractic Association Opioid Task Force.

When approached by local hospital representatives to create a brochure to be given to patients on discharge from emergency rooms and step-down pain facilities, Ohio State Chiropractic Association Opioid Task Force contacted the F4CP for assistance.

The trifold brochure is designed as an informational overview about chiropractic care, including sections such as:

Ohio State Chiropractic Association Opioid Task Force members from District 14 have been extremely active in utilizing Foundation materials to educate their community regarding chiropractic care as a safer, first-line approach to health care as opposed to opioids.

In addition, Ohio State Chiropractic Association Opioid Task Force District 14 members extended the impact of these materials by reaching out to other state districts, including the Youngstown Chiropractic District. The District 14 representatives attended the Youngstown Chiropractic District monthly meeting to share their opioid response project and to emphasize their veterans' right to seek chiropractic treatment campaign, which reaches both patients and veterans who are injured on the job.

Dr. Aaron McMichael, member of the Ohio Chiropractic State Association District 14, says, “We've found when meeting with veterans at local events that over 90 percent of them had no idea they could receive chiropractic care through their VA coverage. With vets and military dying from drug overdoses at twice the rate of the public, they need to know they can access treatment from a local DC and it will be covered once authorized by the VA.”

Youngstown TV 21 filmed the event and their program made the 11 o'clock news. Click here to view the media coverage.

How One Doctor is Changing Lives

Ken Kaufman, DC, Team Chiropractor for the Baltimore Orioles, builds awareness of opioid dangers and chiropractic solutions.

Dr. Kaufman sent a letter to the editor of the Herald-Tribune focused on developing conservative care to avoid wrongful diagnoses and treatment in patients. His letter was inspired by a presentation titled, “The National Issue of Opioids: Conservative Care to Help Patients Avoid Medical Errors,” at the Florida Chiropractic Association regarding more careful treatments.

Dr. Kaufman says, “In my letter to the editor, I pointed to the reactionary means that were not preventative. If we can shift people away to viable, safe approaches like chiropractic, we can keep them from getting to opioids in the first place.”

Additionally, Dr. Kaufman is working alongside the Sarasota County Sheriff Representatives of the Association of School Resource Officers to initiate a campaign directed at informing younger athletes about the potential dangers of opioid prescriptions for pain management. Dr. Kaufman felt that even young athletes were already exposed to opioids and claims in his previous work with student athletes, several of them know others utilizing opioids for pain management stating, “I want to tell them, don’t go down that path.”

In conclusion, Dr. Kaufman says, “We need to get this information out there. We are professionals, trained in this and have access to more information than a large portion of the community. We have knowledge of the musculoskeletal systems and the origins of pain, as well as how to handle it.”
