September Awareness Campaign Update

The September 2017 Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness campaign has advanced our goal of positioning chiropractic as a first-line pain management alterntive to opioid prescriptions.

We are reaching multiple audiences through press releases, webinars, advertisements and social media outreach, providing educaton regarding the potential dangers of opioids and the benefits of chiropractic care to manage pain.

But our campaign is far from over. We still encourage all of our members to promote Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness, as the campaign transitions in the coming months to highlight the dangers of over-the-counter (OTC) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Please take advantage of our Doctor Roadmap, which will help to you to build awareness for your practice in local markets.

State Associations and Individual DCs are Making Waves

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Group and Individual Members, September's Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness campaign was a resounding success. We applaud your efforts to combat opioid addiction and champion chiropractic care as a safe and drug-free option.

North Carolina Chiropractic Association: Governor Roy Cooper declared September as Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month!

The Senior VP of the NC Chiropractic Association has also secured a proclamation from Jennifer Roberts, the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, the largest city in North Carolina.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors, Governor Rick Synder declared September 2017 as Pain Awareness Month. We commend their efforts in promoting drug-free pain management.

Iowa Chiropractic Society: Governor Kim Reynolds recognized September as Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month with a formal proclamation.

The Iowa Chiropractic Society has been very active in promoting chiropractic care as a safer alternative to opioids for pain management and we are very excited to keep current with their progress.

The Ohio District 14 chiropractors also secured a major victory last month with the mayor of Canton Ohio, Thomas Bernabei, and David Held, Mayor of North Canton Ohio, declaring September Drug-Pain Management Month. A huge round of applause is owed to their tireless work in securing this major proclamation for the benefit of chiropractic in the state.

The Chiropractic Council of Guam had a proclamation passed, as well!

US Employers Adding Chiropractic Care to Corporate On-Site Health Clinics

Employer confidence regarding the inclusion of chiropractic care in on-site and near-site corporate health clinics is now growing at a more rapid pace, thanks to the ongoing focus of the F4CP.

In 2017, we again collaborated with the National Association of Worksite Health Centers (NAWHC) on several levels:

  • Commissioned NAWHC to conduct a survey of leading vendors who operate clinics nationwide for employers. Results of the survey will be publicized soon but the trend is going up, up, up.

  • F4CP conducted a round table meeting with a select group of vendors to gauge specific expectations when they hire a DC as part of the integrated care team.

  • Attended the general session of the annual meeting where F4CP met with hundreds of employer representatives.

For DCs, there will be expanded opportunities for full-time or part-time employment, at attractive salaries and benefits. F4CP has ongoing relationships in the employer sector today, with more to come.

Special thanks to ChiroTouch for their financial support of this initiative - would not have been possible without this generous support.

Individual Spotlight of the Month: Debra Brown

This month, F4CP recognizes Debra Minor Brown, for her contributions to the Foundation and to the chiropractic profession.

Brown has served as the CEO of the Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) for the past 20 years. She works with a staff team of 16 in the service of FCA's 4,700 members. The association hosts the largest conention and exposition in the chiropractic worldwide, each August in Orlando.

She has also contributed monthly to the Foundation since 2009 and has generously donated $4,700 in support of F4CP's and goals.

We are thankful to Debra Brown for her ongoing membership and total support of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress.

Contributer Spotlight of the Month: Florida Chiropractic Association

Much of F4CP's success can be attributed to its generous contributers. This month, the Foundation would like to recognize The Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) for its ongoing support of the F4CP.

The FCA contributes an incredible $2,600 per month and began contributing to the positive press campaign in 2007. During September's opioid awareness campaign, the FCA also donated $5,000 toward campaign efforts with a pledge for an additional $15,000. In total, the FCA has contributed $284,000.

We are proud to recognize the Florida Chiropractic Association this month for their continued support.

The Benefits of Group Membership for Your State Association

The Foundation is proud to offer its massive pool of resources to benefactors and supporters of the organization. State Associations have the opportunity to join the Foundation in Group Membership for $10 per active practicing doctor per year.

Group Members of the Foundation have unlimited access to these resources as well as to previous published information including: posters, ads, statements, press releases and more. An additional benefit of membership is a visit by the Foundation's public relations staff to the offices of the State Associations to work with their staff to better utilize the materials available to them in a strategic marketing planning session.

Recently, the Foundation's PR team met with the Unified Virginia Chiropractic Association.

Post-event, we received a note from Julie Connolly, Executive Director at the Unified Virginia Chiropractic Association highlighting recent achievements from the strategic planning session:

Dear Laura, Joe and Alexis:

I can't believe that over a week has gone by since you joined us in Virginia Beach!

Before any more time goes by, we wanted to send out warmest thanks to you for making the trip and helping us to utilize Foundation resources and fine-tune our PR efforts on behalf of Chiropractic and its patients. I was extremely disappointed that I could not stay for the whole meeting, but I know from everyone I talked to how valuable they felt it was. I look forward to going through your materials and information as soon as I get through convention follow-up.

Again, on behalf of Dr. Carly Swift, her PR Committee members, our Board of Directors, and general members, THANK YOU to you and the Foundation for making a difference in spreading chiropractic's positive message - and for helping the UVCA to participate in that effort in more efficient and effective ways.

Julie Connolly, Executive Director, Unified VCA
