Update: F4CP Opioid Abuse Campaign

In late 2016, the F4CP introduced the continuation of the chiropractic profession’s latest campaign ‘Save Lives. Stop Opioid Abuse. Choose Chiropractic.’ #StopOpioidAbuse

The F4CP is asking 5,000 doctors of chiropractic to contribute $200 each to support the campaign efforts. Those that want to contribute more can add others' names – children, assistant(s), significant others and in honor of deceased family members – for an additional contribution. All donations made will go directly to the campaign.

DONATE Today

The campaign features ‘Opioid Toolkit 1.0,’ which includes several resources that emphasize the dangers associated with the misuse and abuse of prescription opioid painkillers and the benefits of chiropractic care.

The F4CP is planning to expand the Opioid Toolkit to include:

  • Opioids 2.0 White Paper
  • Press Releases
  • Website Banners
  • E-Blasts
  • Social Media Postings: Boosted / Sponsored Content
  • Custom Hashtag: #StopOpioidAbuse
  • Print Advertisements
  • Informational Flyers
  • Videos
  • Advertorials
  • Social Syndications
  • Newsletter Advertisements
  • TV and Radio Public Service Announcements
  • Spokespersons
  • Times Square Advertisements

As additional donations are received throughout 2017, new resources will be developed and added to the ‘Opioid Toolkit 2.0’ to better serve your community.

Many health care organizations outside of chiropractic, including the American Physical Therapy Association, American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, National Athletic Trainers' Association and more –– are jumping on the ‘stop opioid abuse bandwagon’ at various degrees.

The American Physical Therapy Association implemented a ‘ChoosePT’ campaign, advocating for physical therapy prior to the utilization of prescription opioids. They have gone as far as placing costly paid advertisements on billboards in Times Square.

The chiropractic profession has always offered a safer option to the dangerous and adverse effects of drugs - to include the opioid epidemic sweeping our nation.

While other professions are jumping on the opioid abuse bandwagon, the issue of CHIROPRACTIC FIRST has long been a chiropractic cornerstone of care.

Help us continue to take the lead in educating the public on the important role chiropractic has always played as the best option for pain relief and improved health and wellness.

LEARN MORE: Research Activities of World Spine Care

Founded in 2008 by Scott Haldeman MD, PhD, DC, World Spine Care (WSC) is a multinational not-for-profit, charitable organization designed to fill the gap in the evidence-based treatment of musculoskeletal and spinal conditions found in underserviced areas around the world.

Last month, the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery published an article entitled: ‘Global Forum: Spine Research and Training in Underserved, Low and Middle-Income, Culturally Unique Communities: The World Spine Care Charity Research Program’s Challenges and Facilitators.’

The recent article details four projects that were managed by the WSC research committee, along with the challenges and specific facilitators that enabled successful completion of these initiatives.

The projects involved setting up spine surgery expertise and data collection in the WSC clinics and surrounding communities. Each project successfully met their aims by:

  • Overcoming language and resource challenges
  • Adapting to local customs
  • Taking time to build mutual respect
  • Nurturing relationships with local investigators and stakeholders

For additional information, read the article here.

Doctor Spotlight of the Month: Dr. Troy Van Biezen

This month, the F4CP spotlights Dr. Troy Van Biezen for the continuous support he has shown to the F4CP and chiropractic profession.

In 2015, Dr. Van Biezen graciously connected the F4CP with Professional Golfers Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson to help raise further awareness about the benefits of chiropractic care - specifically in relation to the health and performance of athletes.

Additionally, Dr. Van Biezen participated in a public service announcement with 2015 British Open Winner Zach Johnson. To watch the PSA, click here.

The tremendous level of support shown by Dr. Van Biezen aids in the organization's ability to generate positive press resources -- including press releases, advertisements, print advertorials, television/radio public service announcements and sponsored research.
