We are asking for 5,000 doctors of chiropractic to contribute $200 each to support the efforts of 'Save Lives. Stop Opioid Abuse. Choose Chiropractic.' Those that want to contribute more can add others names - children, assistant(s), significant others and in honor of deceased family members - for an additional contribution.
On March 14, 2017, the F4CP hosted a press briefing at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, to improve pain-care in America.
Key Presenters Included:
Marc Siegel, MD, Professor of Medicine, New York University School of Medicine, Medical Director of Doctor Radio at NYC and SiriusXM, FOX News Medical Correspondent, Columnist for Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Slate, FoxNews.com, National Review Online, Forbes Online, and Member of the Board of Contributors, USA Today
Wayne Jonas, MD, Executive Director, Samueli Integrative Health Programs
David Thomas, PhD, Program Officer, Division of Epidemiology, Services and Prevention Research, National Institute on Drug Abuse
Linda Porter, PhD., Director, NIH's Office of Pain Policy and Co-Chair of the National Pain Strategy and Federal Pain Research Strategy Steering Committees
Jan Chambers, President, National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association (NFMCPA)
"Chiropractors are not the problem," said Dr. Siegel. "In fact, zero percent of chiropractors actually prescribe opioids... Primary care doctors are responsible for 28 percent of the problem, and let me tell you why: someone comes to us for back pain, and maybe we understand that the back is a tight compartment of muscle, nerve and bone, but maybe we don't know which is causing the problem... So, what do primary care doctors do? They start trying to medicate to get the patient feeling better."
On Tuesday, March 7, California Chiropractic Association (CCA) held its legislative conference in Sacramento, CA, where each CCA member was given an opioid abuse brochure created by the Foundation.
On the day of the conference, the Foundation joined forces with CCA and ran an ad in the Sacramento Bee as a way to raise further awareness about the value of drug-free chiropractic care as an alternative to prescription opioids for pain management. View the ad below:
