Understanding the History of F4CP

On November 8, 2014, it will be exactly 11 years since all major, national chiropractic associations signed two separate proclamations under the title, "Pledge of National Public Relations Unity."

The first document proclaimed that all associations put a stop to individual and unsuccessful public relations campaigns and support one comprehensive campaign. The second document indicated that the F4CP would retain a reputable public relations agency and provide them the authority to implement an effective program without interference.

Included within the signed proclamations was the following:

"THEREFORE, we solemnly declare and resolve that: We have one unified message: to get the general public to 'go see a chiropractor.' We agree to not start any public relations effort on our own."

Representatives of the following groups: ICA, ACA, COCSA, ACC, FCER, NBCE, FCLB and a number of colleges, signed the proclamations.

The public relations program acting under the F4CP, established by Kent Greenawalt, received the endorsement of the united group to pursue the collective goal established. View the original proclamation here.

Nationwide D.C. Directory Supports Collective Goal Established in 2003

View YOUR Listing Online…

While the F4CP had its big debut in 2003, it didn't get much attention until 2006 after retaining the services of CPR Communications. The public relations agency initiated a monthly campaign that included the distribution of press releases, print advertorials, public service announcements, social syndications and advertisements. As a result, for the past two years, the F4CP has distributed and tracked over 31 billion media impressions about chiropractic care and increased its monthly contributors to over 5,000 individuals. This impressive activity directly supported increased patient education, but it was not until this year that the campaign had the ability to increase market share - which, is being achieved through the new F4CP aggressive ad collection and D.C. Directory.

Over 20 new ads were recently developed with the support of ChiroTouch, Dynamic Chiropractic and F4CP, and introduced to the profession in late August. Within the ads is a link to the F4CP D.C. Nationwide Directory, also launched in August, which connects patients to local doctors. In the month of September the new Directory website had over 1600 visitors looking for a D.C.

If you are a member of the F4CP, you are already listed within the D.C. Directory. If you haven’t done so already, please review your listing to be sure it is accurate. If you contribute $25 and above per month, you will notice that you have an enhanced listing, allowing you to add your website, testimonials and much more to promote your practice to prospective patients.

If you are interested in receiving the added F4CP benefit (enhanced listing), become a contributor at $25 per month. PLEDGE HERE.

Michigan Association of Chiropractors Becomes First F4CP Group Member

The F4CP announces the enrollment of its first Group Member: Michigan Association of Chiropractors (MAC). Group Members are included within a premier class of support and entitled to added benefits. Unique to this grouping, members receive permission to present qualified stakeholders with access to F4CP member benefits, including use of all marketing material, a listing within the nationwide directory, access to practice-building webinars and tool kits, and much more.

Group Membership is available to associations that commit to an annual F4CP contribution in the amount of $10 per qualified stakeholder. Doctors who practice full-time and pay full dues to the association are considered qualified stakeholders. If an association offers a discounted rate to full-time practicing doctors in their first three years of practice, the F4CP includes those stakeholders at no cost.

Added Perk: All listings included within the D.C. Directory of new stakeholders enlisted through a Group Member include the group’s logo (hyperlinked) with the following text, "If you want to learn more about the association in your state, click here."

Excited about its new partnership with F4CP, the MAC featured a poster at its annual convention describing the new benefits available. See poster below.

UPDATE: Recommend One

The F4CP continues to promote its new campaign, Recommend One, which encourages the profession to recruit chiropractic college students. As you will recall, the survey by Chiropractic Economics demonstrated that 60 percent of the chiropractic profession had referred a patient, student or other at one time, while 40 percent had done so this year.

The campaign attempts to close this gap by recognizing the doctors who are successful recruiters and providing others with the tools needed to become successful. One of the tools is a standard colored poster for the chiropractic office. The poster details the many benefits of a chiropractic career and provides a link to the ACC website for more information. View the poster here.

Recommend One launched at the FCA National Convention & Expo, during which, the campaign’s spokesperson General Halstead honored top doctor recruiters selected by the colleges.

Since the launch, there are a number of related activities and promotions that have occurred and are planned:

  • PregnancyAn upcoming issue of Chiropractic Economics will feature an editorial recognizing several top doctor recruiters from each of the chiropractic colleges. Recognition will include a photo of a doctor and a statement regarding his/her activities.
  • The campaign was presented by Nick Doyle, with Chiropractic Economics, to a group of 100 students, during a SACA annual leadership event at the Foot Levelers facility. Students learned about the importance of Recommend One and how they could get involved. They also received Recommend One t-shirts.
  • A follow up celebration of the campaign will be held at the 2015 Parker Seminars, during which, General Halstead will honor additional recruiters on-stage for their success. Doctors who start recruiting now have the possibility of being recognized!

Oregon Gov. Proclaims October "Chiropractic Health and Wellness Month"

In response to the nation's growing healthcare crisis, Oregon Gov. John A. Kitzhaber, M.D., has proclaimed October 2014 to be "Oregon Chiropractic Health and Wellness Month."

A special thanks goes out to Oregon doctor and long-time F4CP contributor, Vern Saboe, D.C., for his facilitating this recognition in his state.

The proclamation communicates the statement, "services of doctors of chiropractic result in improved health, satisfaction, safety and reduced per capita costs." Also referenced within the proclamation was an important report that analyzed 70,274 member-months of patients managed by doctors of chiropractic. It concluded that, in comparison to traditional medicine, chiropractic generates advantageous outcomes, including:

  • 85 percent reduction in drug costs
  • 62 percent reduction in MRIs and surgeries
  • 60.2 percent reduction of in-hospital admissions
  • 59 percent reduction in hospital days

Continued Impact on Employers

As reported last month, the F4CP sponsored Dr. Bill Updyke, the chiropractic doctor at Cisco, and Jerry Curtin, a representative of Standard Process, as speakers at the 2nd Annual Forum of the National Association of Worksite Health Centers. The presentation communicated information about the value of chiropractic services within onsite health centers. Members of the audience provided positive remarks following the presentation.

In November, the F4CP will be present at the following employer meetings:

  • Institute for HealthCare Consumerism Forum West, November 10-12, 2014: The IHC Forum West is the only conference series that is 100 percent dedicated to healthcare consumerism. The F4CP will sponsor Ross M. Miller, MD, MPH, Medical Executive, Cerner Corporation, and Sherry McAllister, M.S. (Ed), D.C., as speakers who will host a discussion around chiropractic as an evidence-based alternative offering opportunities for cost-reduction, improved patient satisfaction and increased productivity.
  • National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH), November 10-12, 2014: The NBCH is a national, non-profit, dedicated to value-based purchasing of health care services through the collective action of public and private purchasers. The F4CP will send a representative to attend this meeting and engage with leadership in attendance.

Medscape Quiz Brings Much Needed Attention to Back Pain

Recently, Medscape published a quiz about identifying the source of and properly treating back pain. The F4CP encourages its readership to review the educational quiz and share with others.

The article introduces the quiz with the following information, "In the United States, acute and chronic neck and lower back pain is a major issue in healthcare. Approximately 75% of Americans will experience back pain at some point. Most patients do not require surgery, but 3%-5% of patients with back pain have a herniated disk, and 1%-2% have compression of a nerve root. Can you correctly identify the source of back pain and indicate proper treatment?"
