Jerry Rice at Palmer Homecoming

The recent homecoming event at Palmer College of Chiropractic, West Campus, hosted Jerry Rice as a special guest during its lunch on May 3, 2014. Following a 20-minute presentation that included Dr. Bill Meeker, Kent Greenawalt and Jerry Rice, complimentary photos were available for F4CP members.

Nearly all of those in attendance lined up to take a photo with the NFL hall of famer. To view photos of doctors/students with Rice, click the album below.

In addition to the main session, Jerry Rice also visited with the 40 doctors participating in the Athletic TIPS™ certification seminar, held throughout the day on May 3, 2014. The seminar, which is the second ever, has received raving reviews:

"This seminar is a functional program that is useful in the real world!"

"Great presentation in one day, what a time saver for my life to get this information and skill in one calendar day -- makes it easier to explain concussion, nutrition issues and sports injuries to patients and parents who do not want to believe they have a problem."

To read additional reviews, visit Athletic TIPS™ on Facebook.

Forbes and USA Today Publish Negative Articles

Recently, much attention has surrounded the negative articles that appeared on a Forbes blog and in USA Today, which focused on the amount of money being paid to doctors of chiropractic through Medicare. The F4CP did not respond to the Forbes blog, since bloggers receive additional compensation based on the attention their articles receive. The F4CP did, however, respond to the story in USA Today. Please read the response submitted below:

Dear Editor:

In reading, "Some chiropractors making big Medicare-paid adjustments," featured in your April 29, 2014 issue, I was not surprised by the attention to this particular case, as a number of news stories have surfaced following the availability of the 2012 Medicare expenditure data exposing the astronomical earnings of providers.

"It is absolutely appropriate that any earner in any field that is well above the norm, in terms of income, is subjected to closer evaluation," comments Gerard W. Clum, D.C., spokesperson, Foundation for Chiropractic Progress. "Any high-end earner should be prepared to defend their procedures especially when they deviate from the average."

The interesting part of the report on Medicare-related income earned by chiropractors is the low cost of care provided by chiropractors. Dr. Clum adds, "The Medicare system is getting an exceptional healthcare buy from the chiropractor. When you consider the replacement costs if chiropractic care was not available to the millions of consumers receiving these services you would be stunned. My estimate is $500 million spent on chiropractic care replaces $2 billion spent on other forms of care, such as office visits, medications, therapy, hospitalizations and surgeries."

Any healthcare provider who abuses the system should be excluded from it. There is no discussion about it. Similarly, any provider that can work efficiently and effectively within the system providing needed care in an appropriate manner should be free to earn an income commensurate with the effort. Success as a by-product of providing effective healthcare at a reasonable fee should be upheld as a model of accomplishment.

To counter the negative comments published on the Forbes blog, the F4CP is recommending doctors attempt to become Forbes bloggers. The process can be demanding, but if persistent, may be worthwhile. Below is a blog post that shares a few helpful tips from a blogger whose work was previously published by Forbes.

Messages from Beach Boys' Star Mike Love and Others

On a regular basis, the F4CP distributes print advertorials and social syndications to over 10,000 news and social media outlets nationwide. NewsUSA manages distribution of these stories and guarantees each story to receive a minimum number of placements -- 1,000 for advertorials and between 90-140 placements for syndications. Examples of social media sites that post F4CP stories are: Pinterest, Flickr, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Twitter, Diggit and FriendFeed, along with countless health-related blogs.

Several months after the stories are distributed, NewsUSA delivers the F4CP with coverage reports that detail all media placements.

A favorite story of the F4CP is one which features Beach Boys' singer, Mike Love. Please read the advertorial and syndication below.

New Ads for F4CP Members

In earlier communications, the F4CP has mentioned it was in the process of developing new, more aggressive ads that encourage more individuals to seek chiropractic care. Utilizing input from several focus groups in New Jersey and California, the F4CP has developed 10 brand new ads.

Today, the F4CP is pleased to share that several vendors - Dynamic Chiropractic, ChiroTouch and Standard Process -- have also joined in this effort, developing more ads to be included within the new collection offered to members.

Recommend One

A recent survey by Chiropractic Economics asked a series of questions regarding the professions’ opinion on recommending chiropractic as a career to patients, family and friends.

The survey communicated the following:

  • 67.9 percent of respondents indicated that they occasionally recommend chiropractic as a career to patients and friends
  • 42.2 percent of respondents indicated they recommend chiropractic as a career to patients, family and friends
  • 69 percent of respondents indicated that the profession would benefit from media activities, chiropractic colleges and fellow doctors encouraging a career in chiropractic
  • 72 percent of respondents indicated that they would recommend a school other than their chiropractic alma mater

Think about this...If only 5 percent of the doctors who indicated an interest in referring someone to a career in chiropractic were motivated to do so, it would mean more than 1,500 new potential chiropractic students.

Recommend One is an initiative that focuses on making this happen. The F4CP will work with chiropractic colleges, vendors and associations in an effort to make this initiative successful. If you are a doctor and are interested in supporting the new program, please contact Lauren Kennedy at lkennedy@cpronline.com. For additional information, please look to future e-newsletters
