New F4CP Pregnancy Press Series

Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and other institutions report that mothers who used acetaminophen were at a higher risk of having children with ADHD behaviors, as well as hyperkinetic disorder (HKD), a particularly severe form of ADHD. This study was published in JAMA Pediatrics and many healthcare experts are calling to find non-pharmacological ways for pregnant mothers to deal with pain.

In an effort to share this information, the F4CP created and distributed a new press release and public service announcement (PSA).

To view the press release and PSA, along with all others, please visit www.f4cp.com/media-center/.

Within the next few weeks the F4CP will release PSAs on the following topics: college enrollment, headaches, and posture and professional sports.

REMINDER: As a contributor of the F4CP, you are permitted to download and use all press releases and PSAs for personal marketing campaigns.

New Initiative by F4CP to Encourage Chiropractic Career Path - Recommend One

The campaign has earned the support and endorsement of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC), the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) and the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA). Other organizations are expected to endorse the campaign as their boards meet.

Recommend One is a cooperative campaign that encourages doctors of chiropractic to recommend a career in chiropractic to prospective students.

Prompting the campaign was a survey of doctors conducted by Chiropractic Economics that noted the following:

  • 67.9 percent of respondents indicated that they occasionally recommend chiropractic as a career to patients, family and friends.
  • 42.2 percent of respondents indicated they recommend chiropractic as a career to patients, family and friends, one or two times a year.
  • 69 percent of respondents indicated that the profession would benefit from media activities, chiropractic colleges and fellow doctors encouraging career in chiropractic.
  • 72.7 percent of respondents indicated that they would recommend a school other than their chiropractic alma mater.

These findings confirmed an earlier survey conducted by Widmeyer, on behalf of the ACC, that revealed the significant influence of doctors in one’s decision to pursue a career in chiropractic.

Calling All Doctors

Recommend One is simple. Encourage doctor participation and provide the tools to support student recruitment. The F4CP has already produced posters and notepads for internal promotion and recruitment purposes.

All campaign material, including the posters, will feature the URL: www.considerchiropractic.org. This address was established to track all visitors and automatically direct them to the ACC URL: www.discoverchiropractic.org.

The goal of Recommend One is to directly complement the original, well-supported enrollment campaign. For those familiar with the ACC campaign, which has been supported by the colleges and Widmeyer, you will notice that Recommend One material uses similar graphics and statements. The reason for the similarities is because the ACC campaign material was developed after an extensive survey of the population.

If you are interested in a Recommend One poster for your office, please contact Mary Anne at Maryanne@foundation4cp.com. While the posters are free, the F4CP appreciates a donation to cover the cost of shipping.

Attend the Official Launch of Recommend One

The official launch of Recommend One will be held at the 2014 Florida Chiropractic Association National Convention & Expo, August 21-24, 2014, in Orlando. On August 23rd at 9 a.m., during the plenary session, campaign spokesperson General Becky Halstead will lead a presentation that not only explains Recommend One, but also recognizes doctors in the audience who have been nominated by colleges or state associations as top recruiters. The F4CP plans to provide recognized doctors with additional exposure through follow up articles in chiropractic media.

The F4CP will also schedule a second presentation about Recommend One at the 2015 Parker Seminars in Las Vegas. Stay tuned for more details.

NEW Press Release Highlights JOEM Report

The F4CP recently distributed a press release (download here) that shares the findings of a new study, "Tracking Low Back Problems in a Major Self-Insured Workforce: Toward Improvement in the Patient's Journey," (Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine; June 2014) which underscores the value that chiropractic brings to the delivery of care for low back pain.

Included within the release are comments by lead author, Harris Allen PhD, who offers an explanation about the study’s analysis and conclusions - with specific reference to the significance of chiropractic in driving lower total costs per episode — and by Paul Papanek, MD, MPH, FACOEM, who confirms the importance of this report and its potential to positively impact company health plans and providers.

The F4CP encourages you to read its latest press release and share it with your respective audiences.

Promoting Chiropractic Services at On-site Health Centers

The F4CP continues to find opportunities to promote the inclusion of chiropractic services within on-site health centers at many mid-size and large companies. Many companies have discovered that such clinics aren’t only considered a perk for their employees, but also help to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism. The number of clinics that include a doctor of chiropractic continues to increase.

On September 10th, the F4CP will sponsor a presentation about the inclusion and value of chiropractic services at on-site health centers at the annual meeting of the National Association of Worksite Health Centers. The F4CP presentation will be led by Dr. William Updyke, the D.C. at the CISCO health center, and Jerry Curtin, the president/GM of the Standard Process wellness center, Cultivate. Both presenters will share personal, resourceful experiences and methods for including chiropractic services on-site.

The annual meeting of NAWHC will attract a number of reputable companies, including General Electric, Allstate, MillerCoors and others.

F4CP Representatives Attend NBCH Leadership Forum

One of the earliest efforts of the F4CP in its attempt to connect with the employer community was joining the National Business Coalition on Health. This organization, which is composed of prominent employers and health organizations, sponsors programs for employers on how to better manage the health of their employees, increase productivity and reduce absenteeism. The organization's strong focus on wellness, as helping to control health costs, increase productivity and reduce absenteeism, has been advantageous for the F4CP. Over the years, the F4CP has exhibited and sponsored at a number of NBCH programs.

As a member of the NBCH, the F4CP is able to attend its annual leadership forum, where there are opportunities to interact with other prominent leaders of the business and healthcare communities. This year, the forum was held in Canton, Ohio and sponsored by the Ohio Business Coalition on Health. The F4CP asked Bharon Hoag, executive director of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association, and Dr. Ron Farabourgh, past president of OSCA, to represent the F4CP at the event. Both individuals came back with positive reports regarding their experiences.
