Focus Groups to Determine Direction of New Ads

The F4CP will be developing a new set of advertisements that target particular conditions that may prompt a visit to a doctor of chiropractic by a prospective patient, as well as elements of the Identity Statement released by Palmer College of Chiropractic and discussed at the recent Summit meeting. The creation of these ads was initiated after several F4CP members requested more ads with an aim to encourage consumers to visit a chiropractic office.

Prior to finalizing the new set of ads, the F4CP will arrange for focus groups in California and New Jersey to test several different versions.

The F4CP will feature the final set of ads online at: www.F4CP.com and in future newsletters. For questions, please contact Kristen Arthurs at: Kristen@Foundation4cp.com.

Strengthening Relationships with Chiropractic Colleges

The F4CP has been increasing its support of the chiropractic colleges to not only help in efforts to increase enrollment, but also to improve communication with administrators, faculty and students.

Presently, the F4CP is involved in the following activities:

  1. Social media support. The F4CP has begun to work with the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) and the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) in support of their new social media campaign that encourages student enrollment. This initiative has been funded by a grant provided by the NBCE.
  2. Regular communication with college presidents. Two weeks ago, the F4CP delivered a special gift, a DVD that included all F4CP public service announcements, to the presidents of all chiropractic colleges. Recipients were encouraged to play the DVD in their campus clinics and share it with their faculty. Following the delivery of the gift, the F4CP has continued to communicate with the presidents on a regular basis, sending monthly newsletters and news updates. These emails are encouraged to be shared with faculty and students of the campus.
  3. Future champions campaign. The F4CP has provided each college with an opportunity to identify an exceptional chiropractic student to participate in its new ads series, Future Champions of Chiropractic. These new ads will run in The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. Please find the first three ads in the new series below.

NEW Resources to Educate State Legislators & Prospective Patients

Initiated last year, the F4CP begun the development of a new educational newsletter series that covers a variety of topics relative to chiropractic care. These newsletters are not time sensitive, and are designed to further educate state legislators and/or prospective patients. The original idea was for state associations to kick off an educational mailing campaign that would deliver these newsletters, along with various items, such as white papers, association newsletters and more, to state legislators in an effort to better acquaint them with the chiropractic community. Later on, it was brought to the F4CP's attention that these newsletters are perfect for educating prospective patients as well. Today, the F4CP encourages both associations and individual doctors to take advantage of the educational series.

Thus far, the F4CP has developed five issues and will debut a sixth at the annual event of COCSA in November. Please view samples of the series below.

Chiropractic Progress On-Site Health Centers

As reported earlier, many employers are establishing on-site health centers for their employees to better manage healthcare costs and outcomes, as well as reduce absenteeism and improve productivity. Several companies have included a chiropractic doctor on staff, including Cisco, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google. Next year, it is estimated that over 14 major corporations will include a doctor of chiropractic on staff.

Cerner Corporation, a major administrator of on-site health centers, recently published a report entitled: "Value of Chiropractic Services at Onsite Health Centers," which confirms that the inclusion of chiropractic care yields advancement relative to healthcare utilization and improved functional status of musculoskeletal conditions. This report helps to encourage employers to explore the advantages of including chiropractic on-site. Cerner expects to release follow up data on this topic within the next year.

In addition to what is happening outside of the profession, the F4CP is pleased to report that Standard Process (SP), which implemented an on-site health center in 2007, will soon release its own data regarding the effectiveness of its facility. The SP on-site health center includes chiropractic doctors, nutritionists and other providers. Since the center's establishment, SP has maintained the records of employee engagement and, more importantly, absenteeism and productivity. Data is currently being analyzed by a local university and SP expects a report to be published in about a month. SP has indicated to the F4CP that its final report will make a great case for the inclusion of chiropractic doctors at on-site health centers.

At the time the report is released, the F4CP will partner with SP to ensure the results are publicized. Over the last few years, the F4CP has established strong relationships with the employer community. One in particular that will help in this initiative will be that with Larry S. Boress, executive director of the National Association of Worksite Health Centers (NAWHC). The F4CP has already contacted Mr. Boress about the coordination of a joint event in 2014 that will focus conversations around the experience of SP. Additionally, the F4CP is working with Mr. Boress to identify a list of major employers that have on-site centers to initiate discussions about chiropractic inclusion. Look to future newsletters for additional updates.

Athletic TIPS Debuts Video at FCA Convention 2013

During August, the F4CP unveiled its new Athletic TIPS program at several major chiropractic functions nationwide, including the Florida Chiropractic Association’s National Convention, and the homecomings of Life Chiropractic College West and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport. At each of the events, the F4CP had an opportunity to present to hundreds of chiropractic doctors about Athletic TIPS and how to get involved. Included in the FCA presentation, was a brand new video about Athletic TIPS. This video was designed for those interested in learning more about what the program has to offer, including trainers, coaches, educators and parents, as well as potential sponsors. The F4CP encourages you to watch the two-minute Athletic TIPS video below.

Athletic TIPS to Target Trainers

Several chiropractic state associations are experiencing issues with their local sports organization, which is responsible for setting the standards for sporting events, because in some cases they declare that chiropractic doctors are not eligible to serve as team doctors. These uncooperative sports organizations are pressured by the medical community, making it difficult for chiropractic doctors to be credentialed. In certain locations, the ideal ally for the chiropractic state associations is the athletic trainers' organizations.

Athletic TIPS plans to prepare a program that can engage both the chiropractic and trainer community, and be presented at annual state association meetings. This program will allow hosting state associations to reach out to their local trainers’ organization and establish a closer relationship. As the program progresses, the F4CP will provide more details online and in future newsletters.

Students Show Support of F4CP

Established in 1974, the WCCS consists of numerous country representatives and strives to advance and unite the global chiropractic profession through inspiration, integrity and leadership. NEW Press Releases & Advertisements

On a regular basis, the F4CP distributes new material that promotes the comprehensive value of chiropractic care. On September 9, 2013, the F4CP distributed a press release entitled: "Foundation for Chiropractic Progress Proposes Improved Management Approach to Spine-related Conditions." The new release responded to a recent JAMA study which concluded that improved management of spine-related conditions represents an area of potential cost savings and quality enhancement for the nation’s healthcare system. The F4CP acknowledged that utilization of chiropractic care as first-line care in the management of spine-related conditions presents an opportunity for cost savings, as well as improved clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. To read the release in its entirety, click here.

The F4CP expects to distribute an additional press release later this month which will highlight the epidemic of drug abuse and the value of chiropractic as a non-drug solution for common conditions. Please look to the F4CP Facebook and/or upcoming promotions for more details.

During the month of September, the F4CP also scheduled the following ads to run in The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. The F4CP plans to increase the number of monthly ads in October, at which point it will run four ads in the first week of the month. The reason for this aggressive approach is due to the occurrence of various state association meetings at that time.
