F4CP Debuts Athletic TIPS™ to Chiropractic Profession

The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) is pleased to debut to the chiropractic profession -- prior to public launch in late 2013 -- its new program, Athletic TIPS: Toward Injury Prevention in Sports(TIPS). Drawing upon input from a multi-disciplinary, blue ribbon advisory board, TIPS serves student and amateur athletes by providing educational resources, such as workshops presented exclusively by TIPS-certified doctors of chiropractic (D.C.s), to coaches, trainers, educators and parents in communities nationwide.

"TIPS focuses on the recognition, treatment and prevention of sports-related injuries, as well as general health and performance enhancement," states Spencer Baron, D.C., chairman, TIPS advisory board and team chiropractor, Miami Dolphins. "A cornerstone of the program is its parent/coach workshops, which utilize and depend upon the expertise and engagement of doctors of chiropractic nationwide. In 2014, TIPS will begin to offer certification courses to train D.C.s on guidelines for conducting workshops."

In anticipation of high interest in the TIPS certification courses, introductory presentations will be made at the following functions:

  • Life Chiropractic College West (The Wave): August 1-3, 2013
  • Palmer Davenport Homecoming: August 8-10, 2013
  • Florida Chiropractic Association’s National Convention & Expo: August 22-25, 2013
  • Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA): November 7-10, 2013

"Attendees will learn the importance of TIPS and its mission, as well as how to capitalize on this program for individual practice growth," adds Dr. Baron, who notes that the workshops will be most significant since they present an opportunity to better serve and connect with local communities. "TIPS is an innovative approach to sports healthcare, and a guaranteed game-changer for athletes and doctors of chiropractic nationwide."

Success at Life West and Palmer Davenport Homecomings

The first two weeks of August presented the F4CP with an opportunity to unveil Athletic TIPS at two well-attended college homecomings.

During August 1-3, 2013, the homecoming of Life Chiropractic College West drew a crowd of over 1,500 doctors and students, who came to enjoy the countless chiropractic speakers included on the program. Joining the roster of speakers was Dr. Gerry Clum, president emeritus of Life West, who discussed the state of the profession and what is necessary to thrive in the modern environment. Additionally, he devoted nearly 20 minutes to discuss Athletic TIPS and how it will be beneficial to doctors of chiropractic. Following his presentation, all of the over 800 attending doctors received a TIPS pledge sheet.

The following weekend, the F4CP attended the homecoming of Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, IA. Dr. Spencer Baron, team doctor for the Miami Dolphins and chairman of the Athletic TIPS advisory board, presented on behalf of the F4CP. His program was two hours in length and focused primarily on sports chiropractic. Throughout his presentation, he shared several stories about treating high-profile professional athletes, along with advice on how to get actively involved through Athletic TIPS. In addition to the excellent presentation made by Dr. Baron, the F4CP was provided complimentary exhibit space and an opportunity to address the Palmer Alumni Advisory Board.

The F4CP could not be happier with its initial presentations about Athletic TIPS and looks forward to similar success at the remaining functions.

URAC Pilot Program Still Underway

Following the release of the F4CP white paper, "The Role of Chiropractic Care in the Patient-Centered Medical Home," and a relative tool kit, a partnership developed with the national accreditation organization, URAC. The F4CP has been working with the organization on a pilot program, that included the participation of 20 chiropractic offices nationwide, to develop a medical home certification program applicable to the chiropractic profession. There are two possible results of the pilot program 1) URAC will develop a new program applicable to the chiropractic profession and/or 2) URAC will determine the chiropractic profession is capable of meeting the standards presented in an existing program. Although the F4CP had been under the impression that a result would be determined at this point in the year, the project has been slightly delayed – due to a change in leadership among the staff at URAC, its president resigned in May and a successor will start in the upcoming weeks. The new date expected for the project to reach completion is October 2013.

The F4CP thanks all of the participating practices for their patience, and promises to continue to communicate all new project developments.

FUTURE Champions of Chiropractic

The F4CP is pleased to announce its newest advertisement series, "Future Champions of Chiropractic." The distinctive series will promote chiropractic as an attractive career choice, and rely on the support of chiropractic colleges and students nationwide to ensure success.

Currently, the F4CP produces an ad series, "Champions of Chiropractic," which features high-profile celebrities and patients with their chiropractors as advocates of chiropractic care. The series generates tremendous publicity through its weekly appearance in prominent publications, such as The Wall Street Journal and USA Today.

The new F4CP spin-off series will be identical in scope. The participants will be current students and future doctors of chiropractic with their chiropractic mentors. Messaging will focus on chiropractic as a career choice.

Louisiana Association Distributes Doctored

The Chiropractic Association of Louisiana is taking an important step in getting the message out about chiropractic and its challenging history. The association has distributed 500 copies of the movie Doctored to all public and state libraries as well as all elected state representatives. This is similar to what the Chiropractic Summit did in distributing copies of the film to every member of Congress. The F4CP encourages all state associations to develop similar initiatives that help to educate the public about chiropractic care.

Correction to July Newsletter

The July newsletter incorrectly sited Vickie Palmer as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Palmer College. The chairman of the Board is Trevor Ireland, D.C. Ms. Palmer serves as Secretary/General to the Board. The F4CP sincerely apologizes for this error.
