FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

F4CP Designates September 2017 Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month:
Retired Brig. General Rebecca Halstead Serves as Honorary Chair

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ – August 29, 2017 – The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP), a leading voice of the chiropractic profession, designates the month of September as Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month, and announces that Retired Brig. General Rebecca Halstead will serve as honorary national chair of the of the educational campaign to stop opioid abuse and save lives. A month-long series of community events – open to the public, state legislators, health plans and healthcare professionals – will highlight the value of drug-free chiropractic care to safely and effectively address many patients’ spine and joint-related pain. Prescription opioid use and abuse that leads to addiction and often disastrous outcomes have put our nation at-risk, with millions of American lives literally hanging in the balance,” says General Halstead. “Unfortunately, people get prescribed addictive painkillers like oxycodone, hydrocodone and Percocet, and the downward journey begins. When these prescriptions are no longer available or affordable, they seek out cheaper and more potent drugs like heroin and fentanyl. The results are shattering, as more than 90 Americans die each day from drug overdoses.”

When it comes to pain, General Halstead knows first-hand suffering with a diagnosis of chronic fibromyalgia (FM) in 2005. She describes the pain as unmanageable, and after returning from a tour of duty in Iraq where she was the first female Commanding General in combat who led 20,000 soldiers and 5,000 civilians, she reports the military’s solution was prescribing multiple prescription medications.

I refused and sought out other solutions,” she says. “Chiropractic care literally saved my life.”

Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month will be observed annually through its recognition by the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development (SHSMD) and designation on the American Hospital Association’s Calendar of Health Observances & Recognition Days. Nationwide events will highlight the value of chiropractic for seniors, athletes, pregnant women, military veterans, and other pain sufferers.
